Eid Aidilfitri Outfit: Ombré Kaftan, Kate Spade MRANDMRS Box Clutch & Zara Hearts Shades

This is the fifth (!) time Shah and I have celebrated Eid Aidilfitri as husband and wife, and this year it was celebrated in my hometown of good old Petaling Jaya.

I don't know why but in Malaysia, it is sort of customary for a husband and his wife to be dressed in identical colours, with some even going as far as dressing up in traditional garbs tailored from the same exact fabric (and little tots of theirs usually follow suit, too). My guess is, well, we all just look more adorable that way.

Usually I would decide my outfit first as it's a lot easier for Shah to find the perfect matching baju Melayu and samping. However, fate had it that in the first few days of Ramadhan, we met and chatted with a friendly, sweet uncle in Pekan Rabu  in Alor Setar who probably liked us enough to slash down the price of a green baju Melayu  I was eyeing in his shop to a price Shah and I could not say not to. 

I then had to make it a mission to find an Eid outfit that would match his. Thankfully the mission turned out to be an easy one!

I adore the traditional dresses of Eid: baju kurung, baju kebaya, baju Kedah, etc. but I wanted something different this year. When I spotted this green and pink ombré kaftan in Subang Parade, I knew I had to have it.

OK, so I did know I have to own it but I wasn't convinced that this was my Raya outfit. The green didn't quite matched the green of Shah's baju Melayu  but after a few more rounds of searching, I went, "That's it. The kaftan is it."

The "MRANDMRS" car-plate-inspired box clutch from Kate Spade has been in my possession for a few months now, nesting in its dust bag; it felt good to finally have it out for something as special as Eid celebration.

The kaftan's sleeves didn't extend to my wrist so I had to search for a pair of "hand socks" (yes, "hand socks" are an actual thing here). I found this pair of pink ones, with a finger loop and a little rhinestone to zest it up. I never, ever thought they're something I would ever wear but there you go! They just completed my outfit so perfectly well.

I had an incredible Eid Aidilfitri at my parents' house; for the first time ever in history, our house had more than three families gathering under one roof, so our Eid was a total party.
